8 x 10 unique block print and collage signed and numbered.
Migrating light illuminates and nurtures tiny islands of ecosystems co-created by human hands and the nature of our universe. These reflect a set of principles: of nutrient dense soil; of hormones; water; reflection; refraction; absorption of waves; and fertility. More than just potted plants scattered through our homes- these are beings reflecting our history passed down and propagated. Considered over time, they represent the evolution of our scientific knowledge and theorems of fractals.
In the series One Million Houseplants, Jennifer Maravillas is considering her own relationship to the wonder-filled beings in her life. Realizing a childhood dream of living in a jungle-filled house may never come true, she will attempt to create one million portraits of her houseplants and those encountered in life and travels. Similar to watching her plants grow, these meditations will consider the geometry of growth in plants and light wavelengths using block printing and sprayed paint. Each numbered and unique still life is created exclusively for Rare Device in San Francisco, CA.
